Holy Carp! CXC is in Mesopotamia!

In the Cradle of Civilization, there is a city called Urfa. In that city, there is a pool. And in that pool live sacred carp. Huge, ravenous sacred carp. If you go "all in" with the tray of fish food they hand out, they writhe in a slippery flopping mass. This needed a CXC for the novelty.

  1. Hey, was this the pool in which some sacred carp jumped out and purportedly said to Alexander the Great : "i offer myself on a platter before the Lord of Asia"? in all seriousness, is this pool that pool?

  2. I'm not sure about that. Their sacredness derives from a story about the biblical king Nimrod trying to burn Abraham--God made the flames turn into fish. The whole complex is designed to reference that story.

  3. ahhh, gotcha, im looking for a legit reference on alexander the great and these carp from the pool of abraham. all i can find is that alexander the great at some point on his campaign passed through urfa. i actually heard this story in some historical fiction novel on alexander the great and while a lot of it was true there were definitely some literary liberties taken. guess the carp story was likely one of them.
